This is an extraordinary salesman’s sample hydraulic tilting brass bed from 1957, complete with provenance and extensive documentation. CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE.
Manufacturer: “E-A-S-Y REST.”
Size: 30” long, 16” wide; the headboard is 15-1/2” tall.
Weight: Approximately 22 pounds. NOTE: DUE TO SIZE/WEIGHT, INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS ITEM; SHIPS ONLY TO LOWER 48 STATES IN US.
Materials: Brass headboard, footboard, and hydraulic lift; steel frame; fabric mattress over plywood.
Condition: Overall very good. Miniature hydraulic pump will leak a tiny bit of residual oil if it is lifted up from level position, but there is no reason to do this when displaying bed. The weld on the arm of the hydraulic pump is loose, but is and present and is really no problem. At one time the headboard appears to have been welded to the frame, but it now is simply being held in place with two screws underneath the frame which is good for display purposes.
The original documentation includes the following in excellent condition:
1) “Patent Guide” book from manufacturer’s patent attorney in Washington, D.C.;
2) Letter dated April 23, 1957, from patent attorney to manufacturer transmitting patent, along with original mailing envelope postmarked the same date.
3) Patent registration booklet dated April 16, 1957;
4) Three cardboard adverting sheets.
