United Nations Pocket Knives (1950s)

The United Nations Charter was created in 1945, and the New York City headquarters opened in 1951, complete with bookstores and gift shops. This simple and elegant penknife is one of the earliest UN souvenirs. It is quite well made with brass grommets, loop, chain, and a blade imprinted “Stainless Steel Japan.” The sides are iridescent green resin, apparently inspired by the green glass windows of the UN Secretariat tower. One side of the knife is cleanly imprinted “UNITED NATIONS” and measures 2-5/8” long, circa 1950s, specially priced at only $9.50 each or 12 for $90 in original plain factory box.
